Six Great Kayaking Tutorial Sites

Okay, so there's really no substitute to learning how to paddle from an experienced instructor and to hone your skills on the water. That said, for those wanting a refresher, or help to tweak strokes, there's a wealth of great info out there on the net. What follows is a list of sites which have a great deal to offer paddlers of all styles.


Kayak Help

Excellent range of information for a various strokes including forward, sculling draw, reverse sweep...and the list goes on. Text only, but very clearly written and a great starting point.



Rogue Paddler

For those interested in tweaking their strokes, Wes Kisting provides a few suggestions for helping you along. What does he suggest? Relax your grip, reduce stroke lag, use your torso and make better use of your arms by pushing the paddle as well as pulling it for more effortless power.

Sea Kayaker

Ed Gillet gives a great insight into the long distance touring stroke and explains the crucial difference between trying to a paddle past a boat and a boat past a paddle. Confused? Read Ed's article and it'll all make sense. There's loads more tutorials for sea kayakers around this site too!



Qajaq USA
